Application Process

Follow the steps below to apply for a grant from the Cooper Foundation

1. Check eligibility and familiarize yourself with our funding priority areas.

See if your project and organization qualify. You can review grant approvals to get a sense of our types of funding and grant amounts.

2. Contact Cooper Foundation

Contact us by email ( or telephone (402-476-7571) with information about your proposal. Be prepared to discuss your organization, the purpose for which you want to apply, the difference it will make, your budget and funding plans, and how you will measure success.

3. Register in our online application system

If your proposal is a good fit for our funding, we will send information about our online application system and how to register and apply.

4. LOI and Application

We have a two-stage process in our online application – a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) form and an Application Form. Applicants are notified shortly after the LOI deadline if their request has or has not moved forward for a full Application.

5. Deadlines

Quarterly LOI deadlines are fixed. Application deadlines are variable, and scheduled within 3-4 weeks after the LOI deadlines. Funding decisions are made approximately 4 weeks after the Application deadlines, and applicants are notified immediately.

6. Foundation Review

Foundation staff review the application materials before sending them to our board of trustees, which makes grant decisions at quarterly meetings. Staff will contact the applicant during the review period if we have questions.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the Foundation after the Application is submitted if there are substantial updates or changes to the proposal or program.
